The recent developments in and around the world have led to a decline in economies of many a developed as well as developing nations. A trend that started with recession not only led to many job losses but also created a scenario of financial crisis. The effect of economic meltdown has been felt in lot of countries but India somehow managed to stay afloat and the economy recovered quite well. The main stays of any economy in a country are its financial institutions; and banks are one among them. The banking system within a country is responsible for the stability of a growing economy.

 Nowadays lots of banks are staring at the prospect of losing a lot of employees either due voluntary or actual retirement. To fill up this vacuum banks are now in the process of recruiting candidates through bank competitive exams. The exam involved with recruitment of probationary officers is known as bank PO exam.

 The eligibility is stipulated by the respective bank that is easily available in the prospectus as well as their official website. The minimum educational qualification in most of the banks is almost same. Any graduate within the age bracket of 20 to 30 years of age and having minimum of 50 to 60% marks can apply for a bank PO examination.

 The prospects in the field of banking sector especially for probationary officers is quite good since the post is looked upon with great respect and the banks offer a very handsome salary to the probationary officers. This is one job that has the qualities of being an honorable job as well as it gives an individual the scope to grow within the management hierarchy.

 Before the preparation for bank PO exams one needs to be sure that they are eligible for appearing the exams. Then a commitment to excel by sheer hard work has to be made since competition is very high in these examinations. Hard work cannot be substituted with any shortcuts and one needs to be ready to burn their midnight oil.

 The examination has been divided into 2 to 3 stages. The first stage involves a written test that aims at evaluating a candidate’s quantitative aptitude skills, reasoning skills and knowledge about current events. The candidates need to apply for this written test by paying the fees in the respective banks through a NEFT form and finally applying online. Once the examination date approaches the candidates receive their call letters for appearing in examination in their respective allotted centers. Those who are able to jump this first hurdle i.e. qualify in the written test, are again called for a second round of tests that involves group discussions and personal interview.

 Only the ones with good subject knowledge who are able to maintain both speed and accuracy in the written test actually qualify for next round. The time is an essential factor that decides the fate of a candidate since solving more questions in limited time frame is indeed very important. On qualifying the written test only those candidates with good communication skills and command over their subject matter can easily sail through group discussions and interview. Rest who are unable to qualify the exams should not get bogged down and instead look at their preparation strategies and try to improve in those areas where they are weak. Being successful and facing failure are part and parcel of life so one must understand that nothing is in our control. The things we can manage or do is the amount of hard work and with a determined effort that makes us strong enough to face any hardships in life.
